There have been several fantastic firsts over the summer for our sporting alumni starting with 2017 SMC alumnus Jack Blain who became the first player born in the 2000's to play for a Scottish pro rugby side when he played for Edinburgh Rugby during their pre-season friendly with Bath. Jack had played with the Stew Mel Lions and with school since he was small. He had the opportunity to play for Scotland U18 team as well as the SMC first VX during his last two years at school. MES 2018 alumna Grace Molloy represented GB earlier this year in the Junior World Orienteering Championships in July in Hungary. This was the second time Grace had represented GB in this competition and she was determined to improve on her results. After running her own races, Grace took part in a team relay, recording the best ever result by a female British trio in the discipline. The team came third overall and were delighted with their performance. Grace has recently left the UK to train in Australia having gained a place on the Australian Orienteering Coaching Scholarship where she will be introducing orienteering to beginners, working with juniors of all ages and abilities and organising and running club training sessinos. And finally, ESMS parent Selina McCole was the first female over the finish line of the City to Summit race from Edinburgh to the top of Ben Nevis. The event starts with a half marathon of road running from central Edinburgh to North Queensferry where competitors pick up their bikes for an 184km road leg into the Highlands. The final stage is back on foot and off road to the top of Ben Nevis and then back to the finish line in Fort William. Selina competed in the Expert category, completing the course in just under 17 hours!
