1991 SMC Alumnus Martin Chamberlain Appointed to High Court

1991 leaver Martin Chamberlain has been appointed as a Justice of the High Court in London.  Martin was called to the Bar in 1997 after studying PPE and a Bachelor of Civil Law at Oxford University, with a Diploma in Law at City University in between these two qualifications. He took Silk in 2013, being appointed a Queen's Counsel, the highest ranking position of a senior barrister in the British law system. 

Martin's work ranges from human rights claims on behalf of individuals and NGOs, to commercial and regulatory judicial review claims and appeals in financial services, environmental law, aviation, healthcare, pensions, pharmaceuticals, tax, telecoms and transport.  On the defendant side, he has appeared for governmental and other public bodies in pubic law cases of all kinds including in the fields of education, local government, equality & discrimination and professional regulation.  He has also worked within the European Court of Human Rights, both for claimants and state respondents, and the EU Courts.
