August was very busy this year for three of our alumni who all took part in Fringe shows during the month. The first to start was Claire Beattie, 2017 MES alumna, who performed with the Alleycats, an a capella group of 12 St Andrews University vocalists and they were Scottish A Capella Champions in 2017. The second of our alumni to be involved in the Fringe was 2015 SMC alumnus and current Cambridge Footlight Comrie Saville-Ferguson, who performed in the sketch show 'Speechless' at the Underbelly in the Cowgate. Speechless was set in a dystopian world where all comic speech had been banned and was an experiemental multimedia sketch show about five rebel comedians using mime, projections and voiceovers to create comedy without speech. Comrie kindly arranged an exclusive offer for members of the ESMS community to get some free tickets!
The last of our alumni known to be taking part in the Fringe was 2011 MES alumna Megan Stewart, Managing Director of These People Make Pictures, a production company based in London. Megan was directing Nine Lives, a dark comedy and a piece of exciting new writing in which the audience is invited to consider the lenghts people will go to in the 21st Century to be current, relevant and entertaining. Descibed as a dystopian take on reality television, Nine Lives was very well received by reviewers. The show ran from 20-26th August at the Studio.
