We are very sorry to confirm the death of Rick Cowie, a true legend in the CCF and respected and loved by legions of cadets as well as by all the CCF staff with whom he worked. On retiring from the Royal Scots around 1980, Rick joined ESMS as the School Staff Instructor and remained at ESMS until his retiral in 2010. As well as delivering training to the Cadets and spending countless hours at cadet camps and on manoeuvres, Rick was responsible for the contingent administration and always ensured (with a smile!) that cadets returned all equipment in a clean and tidy condition! For many years Rick also ran the Shooting Team and was very proud to do so, just as he was proud to play a central role for 30 years with the ESMS cadets. He insisted on high standards and loyalty and he will be remembered as a role-model for all that is good about the ESMS CCF.
