Covid 19 Community Response

Posted on 09th Apr 2020 in Community Stories, ESMS News

We are continuing to enjoy the challenge of providing opportunities for members of our community to come together under lockdown and we have introduced a number of community initiatives to help.  You can find more information on each of the initiatives on our blog at www.esmscommunity.wordpress.com

  • Twice weekly virtual coffee mornings using Zoom on Mondays and Fridays at 10.30am.  We will continue to arrange featured ‘leaders’ for each session and welcome anyone to come and join us for a chat or just to listen in.
  • A weekly photography competition with a different theme each week.
  • A Pen Pals initiative, inviting current pupils to write to older alumni and retired staff
  • A weekly singalong with Mr Skuse, Head of Junior School Music, using Zoom.

In addition to the above, we also have been:

  • Linking people who need support with those who can offer support e.g. deliveries of basic goods to those self-isolating. We currently have more volunteers than we can involve so, if you have not heard back from us with a request for help, it is not because we have forgotten you but because we have been really pleased to discover just how well cared for almost all of our elderly alumni are by families, friends and neighbours.
  • Providing a list of ESMS connected businesses offering local deliveries to help people find reliable supplies of groceries and other basic essentials

And finally we will be launching two weekly quizzes – one for children and one for the family.  More details will be published in our weekly email next Tuesday.

If you have an idea of an initiative you think would work well for our community or you would like to be more involved in any of the above, please visit our blog at www.esmscommunity.wordpress.com or get in touch with us at development@esms.org.uk.
